Reflector-Week 7

My prediction for the rest of the story is that Jonas will be traumatized by what he have seen and he will try to find a way to fix the problem. The chapter started out as a fun day and everyone was happy, but when Jonas saw what the kids are playing, the story became dark and sad, causing the person to read this feel the pain of knowing everything. As Jonas learned who’s Rosemary is, the story got more sad and depressed. When Jonas saw the release, the story got excited in a bad way, got very depressed. As I read the story, it made me think of a relationship with tons of dark secret. I think that Jonas will change because as he know more about the dark side of the society, he will change the way he thinks about the world he’s living and wonder what the real world is like. I think the big idea is that in every perfect world, there will be a dark side that is hidden from the public. This made me think that a perfect world will never be perfect.

Connector- Week 5

In chapter 11-13, I can make some connections to myself as well, like the dreams, I once dream about me in nature seeing a rainbow like Jonas experiencing rainbow for the first time. I can relate the part to the movie Inception where both scenes are about dreams. The Giver way of writing is very calm, flowing very slowly and the movie Inception, the story goes very rapidly and very suddenly. This relate to the section before it by Jonas being brave doing things he have never done.

Summarizer- Week 3

1. The discussion/ director asked:

1. Why do you think the Chief Elders skipped Jonas’s turn?
2. How do you think Jonas felt after the Chief Elders skipped his number and went straight to number 20 like they didn’t even know that he was there?
3. What do you think might happen if Jonas didn’t take the pills?
4. How do think Jonas felt as he shared his dreams with his family in the morning?
5. Do you think that Gabriel will become part of Jonas’s family? Why do you think so?

I think that the Chief Elder skipped Jonas because he was different from the others. When he was skipped, Jonas was stunned because the Chief Elder never make mistake and he felt dizzy and sad. If Jonas didn’t take the pills, I think that he will felt the Stirring again. He shared his dreams to everyone because he felt something different. I don’t think that Gabriel will be part of Jonas family because his mom is strict about the rules.

Week 1: Reflector

After reading the first chapter, I predict that the boy named Jonas will try to figure out what is going on in his life and try to think of a way for a new future. The mood was very calm, there is no conflict yet, everyone is living their normal life as they suppose to. When reading this book, I think of the movie The Lorax because in the back cover, it said that Jonas world is perfect and there is no problem like the movie The Lorax. From the information I’ve gathered, I think Jonas will be a very brave and will be very intelligent as he figures out the subject that is behind everything. I think that Jonas is scared and worried about going to the Ceremony of Twelves, and I think that he will overcome the course by his own. This made me feel not interested and it made me wanted to read more. I think that Jonas will overcome his fear and do the impossible and something no one dares to do.
