4. How do you think about Jonas when he saved Gabriel when the bike fell and Jonas got injured?

5. In your opinion, how would Jonas’ parents feel when they realize Jonas is gone and he took Gabriel with him?

Week 7 – Reflector

I think that as the story goes, Jonas will get more memories, and Jonas will be closer with Fiona. Jonas will be trying to change the Community at some point in the story.

I think right now, the story is becoming more intense and dramatic because more things is happening to Jonas and he’s going through a lot of things that no one else in the community (except the Giver) have ever experienced.

By this point, I remembered when I moved to this school and the friends at my old school started to treat me differently, like how Jonas and Asher was arguing when they were playing the game of war.

Jonas, the protagonist, has changed throughout the story, like he was just going with what was set up at the beginning and now he’s becoming more independent.

In my opinion, one of the big ideas is that there were another Receiver (Rosemary), and Rosemary couldn’t handle the pain so she has to request a release. I think this might happen to Jonas if he doesn’t change the community.

In this section, the book makes me feel really confused at one part where Rosemary had all the good memories and Jonas have to suffer both good and bad. It also make me feel like best friends forever doesn’t exist in this community because of Asher arguing with Jonas.

I think Jonas’ friendship with Asher will fade away because they were arguing for something that shouldn’t be a huge problem.

Week 3 – Summarizer

The DD have some really interesting questions. These are the questions the DD asked:

1. Why do you think people have to take pills to make ”The Stirrings” disappear?

2. What do you think the assignment ”Receiver of Memory” means?

3. Why do they replace children by naming them the same as the previous one?

4. Why did Jonas had the dream?

5. Why do you think spouses and children are assigned instead of picking themselves?

In my group, there are 4 members that replied to the DD’s questions; me, Ridley, Violet and Xena. Some how Julie commented on the group’s post but it doesn’t really matter. The connector made some really good connections from his life. For example he remembered his brother riding a motorbike around the street and got caught by the police. Like how in story Jonas had a dream of Lily riding a bike and got caught by the police.

The visualizer created a fotobabble showing the most important part of the part we are reading. It was about Jonas talking about having the dream of wanting and his mother told him to take the stirrings. Violet and Ridley also think that this is also the important part of the part we’re reading. Violet said that it was like the first mark of Jonas life, while Ridley said that it explains how Jonas has a feeling for the other gender.

Week 2 – Discussion Director

1/ What do you think The Receiver do?

2/ Give your opinion about why kids get bicycles at Nine? Why not earlier?

3/ In the book it says that mirrors are rare. Give your opinion about what happens if in our mirrors suddenly becomes a rare thing.

4/ Why does Jonas like Fiona?

5/ What is the “Assignment”?

Week 1 – Reflector

After reading the first chapter of the book, i think that Jonas will do something that changes the whole society that he’s living in. He will do what he wants and doesn’t care about the consequences. What he does will change the way the people live, the way the people think in this society. The mood in the first chapter really calm, nothing big was happening, accept for the incident from the pilot (pg. 2)

When I was reading the book, I was thinking of a utopia, a perfect world where everything was perfect. I think of this because the was a part where Jonas’ family was talking to each other together, and Jonas’ little sister, Lily was talking about how she feels and why, and the whole family was participating. (pg. 5 to pg.10)

Based on the first chapter of the book, I wonder what if our society is like this, where everyone is just equal and there’s one person that’s different. How would this person be treated? Is this person going to be successful?
