Week 7 Connector

1. The children playing the game of war in chapter 17 reminded me of when I was younger. I sometimes played the game of war with a few other kids in the neighborhood. Those were great times for me.

2. The children in my neighborhood many years ago compare to the children that played the game of war in chapter 17.

3. Jonas reminds me of Heidi from the book “Heidi” in this section because they both really wanted to go somewhere else from where they lived. Heidi wanted to return to Dorfli from Frankfurt, and Jonas wanted to be released and be sent to Elsewhere.

4. J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, has a similar writing style to Lois Lowry’s.

5. Jonas recalled the memory of warfare with the dying boy in the battlefield from chapter 15 while his friends were playing the game of war in chapter 17.

Week 5 – Reflector

In chapter 11 Jonas got to see snow, and he felt really happy that he can experience other things, that in his world he can’t. In chapter 12, Jonas didn’t tell to his parent about his dream, and he didn’t tell anything about his training. It was a surprise that no one know what is snow and sled. Jonas started to see red color from the apple, from Fiona’s hair, and from the faces of the crowd at the Ceremony. Jonas next lesson memory is about rainbow. I think that in the next chapter The Giver gonna show Jonas about blood, and i think Jonas will be surprise. In chapter 13 Jonas start to see painful things like poachers killed elephants. Jonas will start having emotions for example sad, happy, or feeling sorry for someone. In the future i think Jonas will start to have more emotions and learning in real life. After the training i think Jonas will change completely become a new man.

Reflector Week 6

I predict that Jonas will get frustrated that the community doesn’t let its citizens have the things in the good memories (like color). From that frustration, Jonas will give more memories to other people and he will get caught. Most likely the community will try to release everyone that Jonas gave memories too. The mood in these chapters was depressing (the scene of war) and rebellious (when Jonas gave memories to Gabriel). When I read, I thought how could Jonas get the memories he gave to Gabriel back since Gabriel isn’t a Receiver? Jonas said that he will NEVER use the rule that said that he could lie, but he has lied, hid secrets, and talked about his training all throughout the chapters. The text made me worried for Jonas because when he is caught giving memories of Gabriel, he will get a horrible punishment.
