3. Why was Jonas in such distraught when he saw his Asher playing his war game?

4. Why do you think the videos of release are only available to the Receiver and Elders?

Week 6 – Reflector

Base on the story through chapter 14-17, I predict that the story will stay mostly the same. Jonas would still continue going into the Annex room for training to become a Receiver. He would also still continue sleeping with Gabriel when the night came and follow the rule for the training. Like not said anything about his pain or activities for the training.

For the changes that I predict, maybe he would start to hang out and talk to Fiona more because he stop drinking the pills for stirrings, on page 130. There might be some special relationship with Fiona and Jonas in the future.

Other changes that might happen was Jonas would went out of the community to Elsewhere because he was curious. Also because Gabriel get release for some reason, on page 106 & 113. Or maybe because he get sick of being in The Community where no feelings are allow, no love and grandparent on page 124 & 127. Or maybe the opposite thing happen. For my own guess it would be Jonas family because he help the new child to sleep soundly. Also Jonas won’t be as close to Asher and Fiona as before because he make everyone stop playing the game of warfare by standing there on page 132-133.

While i was reading  make me think of when my mother is trying to get my baby brother to sleep in the past. Also of when my dad had to fight in the war. I also think of what it would feel like when there are no feeling and love allow. And there would be no family that contain our grandparent. The text for the chapters cause me to have different feelings that make the story way more interesting. It make me feel scare, sad, delight, very fascinating…Also because the author use variation of vocabulary to describe the events that happen in the story.

After The Reciever transmitted many memories to him, Jonas had change the way he thought about the community. He could now see color everywhere, transmitted his memory to other and many more things. Jonas understand more of how the world in the past actually works. He also gain wisdom day by day. And truly understand and experience the feelings so he knew that his Community don’t have feelings.

For my own opinion the big idea of the text is about how hard life was for Asher to knew all of the memory and can’t seem to share it to anymore. Also nobody seem to understand how he feel and in what situation except for The Old Giver. Jonas is burden of all the pain that the memory gave him.

Base on the clues in the text because Jonas had been influence by those memory and what The Old reciever had taught him. He had stop drinking pills to stop the Stirring because he knew that he couldn’t return to the world where there is no feelings that he had live so long. The memory of the warfare and how terrible it is made him want to stop the game of warfare that the kids and others of playing when they laugh and joke around. And more things.

Week 6: Discussion Director & Questioner

1. In Chapter 15 what does the Giver mean by” Please Take some of the pain”? Pg. 118

2.  Why did the Giver give Jonas the pain or negative memories?

3. Why did the Goverment banned the word ”Love”?

4. What do you feel when the Goverment aka the Elder banned the citizen their felling?

5. Is the Giver is the last Reciever? If so then who is the last Giver?

Week 5 – Reflector

In chapter 11 it’s about Jonas first time seeing snow and he is really happy to discovered new things that in his community can’t. He didn’t tell anyone about his dream even his parents. Also he didn’t tell anything about his training. It was hard to believe that no one know what is snow and sled is.

In chapter 12 Jonas started to see red color from the apple, from Fiona’s hair, and from the faces of the crowd at the Ceremony. Jonas next lesson memory is about rainbow. I think that in the next chapter The Giver gonna will tell how the color change throughout the memories he recieved.

In chapter 13 Jonas start to see painful things like the hunter killed elephants. Jonas will start having emotions like sad or happy and the feeling to say sorry for someone. In the next few chapter I think Jonas will learn more in life and he will have more emotions. At the end he will completely change to an new awesome person.

Summarizer Week 6

So no one in our group did their job for week 6 so far except this one and Mickey as connector. So this is just a note for the teachers… Mike N. posted his role as a visualizer on our page but he is not in our group or our class. However, he did an awesome job so let’s talk about his drawing 🙂 I think he did a nice job on his drawing and displaying the pain and chaos of the memory. I also like how he connected the memory to wisdom and how pain makes us stronger and wiser through experience.

On to Mickey. She connected the event of the Giver giving the happy memory of family to Jonas. I can make the same connection too since memories of our families together always make our hearts warm and cheer us up. Happy memories of spending time with our families and goofing around also makes us feel the same way too! Mickey also connected to taking care of Gabriel. She has taken care of one before and knows the positives and negatives of it. I like babies but they are hard to take care of for sure… Finally, Mickey wrote that she felt pity for Jonas because he has to bear all these painful memories. However, I think Jonas is being brave and caring by taking on these memories to ease the pain and suffering of an old man, the Giver. I feel admiration instead!

Week 6 – Connector

After reading chapters 14-16, I could connect to a lots of the things that are happening in the story. I could connect to the dad having to take care of Gabriel. Last summer, my aunt had a baby boy and I thought he was so cute. And then all summer, all I did was took care of the baby. It was tiring but also very fun. Jonas’s dad thought that making the baby go to sleep was very hard and I think so too.

The second connection I could make was when Jonas was given the memory of happiness and happy times. It shows the scene of like a party with your family and friends around which is very fun. My family also have parties like that, too which has many fun things and give me happy memories when thinking back. In the story, Jonas felt warmth and comfort after having the memory and so do I when I think back to the happy memories a long time ago. I also feel heart-warming when I think back, too. And also I feel very bad for Jonas for having all the pain from the Giver’s memories like the one when he fell from the sled and felt the terrible pain and had to limp home to the one in the battlefield where everyone was pretty much dead and he had leg pain again.

Week 4- summarizer

From chapter 8-10 the discussion director ask this kind of question:

1) What is the assignment that Jonas get?

2) Why do you think Jonas got to have a rare jobs?

3) How were the ceremony goes for Jonas?

4) What connection can you make as you read through chapter 8-10?

5) How many receiver are/is there in the community?

Not everyone reply to all the questions. There is only Lily, Kelvin, and me ( Meg) answer it in the first place. But after a while Mickey answer but Mike and Jessica still don’t reply to the question. In the first place there is only Kelvin and Jessica P. did their work. Then after that Mickey and Lily done theirs but still Mike didn’t done his work yet. Kelvin connections mostly talk about the books that relate to “The Giver” or to the story from chapter 8-10. Kelvin also talk about the important job he had in the science fair last year are similar to when Jonas get his job the “Receiver of Memory”. Mickey Reflecting is good, and was well written. Lily had draw 2 brains, picture of sunburn, snow, going down hill and sunshine. I think she is very creative to think of the idea to draw the brain instead of drawing Jonas lying down The Reciever bed. This picture does not relate to the reading because it shows what Jonas and The Reciever was doing in the story in chapter 11 not from 8-10.
