2. Do you think Jonas still cares about Fiona now that he have learned she have no feelings when releasing the Old?

3. What will Jonas’s friends and parents think when Jonas and Gabriel are gone?

4. Do you think that Jonas will make through this journey? Will he and Gabriel live and fine Elsewhere?

5. Do you think that the Giver should go with Jonas to Elsewhere? Why?

Week 7 Reflector of Group 2

After reading chapters 17-19, I would predict that in the near future, he will break some of the given rules because he had found the horrible truth behind the releasing ceremony. By breaking rules, I think he would do something like suicide in the river?

While I’m reading, I could sense a mood of intensity, the curiosity of Jonas and the terrified feeling that Jonas had from discovering the truth of releasing.

I has immediately thought about when I learn the truth about that ghost did not exist. I was pretty scared of the dark back then, I don’t know what part of the dark I was scared of but I was scared.

Jonas is now a critical thinker. I think he is a lot more mature than he used to be. He thinks about things and he now makes his own decision. I think that overall, Jonas has grown to be more independent.

I think the big idea of this section is the last Receiver failed and it is repeated that this could not happen again. And the Receiver who failed was also somebody important to the Giver

The text once again describes the whole world using large words making me get drawn to the world itself. I can imagine what Jonas’s pain feel like, I can identify what memory he received. So sum it up, The text is very descriptive.

MY conclusion is that this world is the same everyday. And there is a very large change in the near future, something that could change the whole world involving breaking rules and going beyond.

Week 5 Connector of Group 2

In the chapters 11 – 13, there something that were quite interesting for me to connect to my life. There was like when Jonas discovers something new that is fun, he wants to try it again. Everybody likes to do that, for example, in 7th grade, we all thought zip-lining was scary but it turns out to be fun and everybody wants to try it again. One book that I would like to connect to this book is The Maze Runner because the main character in that book and Jonas is special from everyone else. They have to strive through the story and experience the challenge that nobody ever faced before. The chapters explains how Jonas is special from everyone else he how he is trying to learn all these new things that he has to keep all of it for himself. The section was related to the previous chapters because it connects to the part where Jonas is becoming a different person, it was mentioned in chapter 10 that he has the Capacity to See Beyond, and this section is showing it. This section is basically the explanation of the uniqueness of Jonas.

Week 3 Summarizer of Group 2

After reading chapter 5-7 in the Giver, our group’s discussion director has many questions. She asked 5 things for us to discuss in our group. The questions are:

1. What do you think when they have to tell their dreams to the family?

2. Since Jonas is “different” than other people, do you think Jonas will continuing drinking the pills that he have to in his everyday life?

3. If you were to cut your hair at the age of ten to a disgusting cut, are you willing to? Why?

4. What do you think the purpose given of the numbers before they had names in the Giver?

5. In your prediction, why does the The Chief Elder moves on to number Twenty and skipped Jonas’s numbers nineteen?

Everyone in our group has answered this question except for me. I didn’t answer the question but I will be. Everyone all had the same perspective because all the answers are pretty similar. Our connector did a pretty good job on connecting this to his life. First one, being on chapter 5, when Jonas is dreaming about something that he doesn’t understand, he connects to it by saying that in real life, sometimes the Connector does get some confusing dreams and he hates it when it happens. Secondly, being on chapter 7, because he skipped chapter 6, he talks about where Jonas is really nervous in the Ceremony of Twelve is like him being nervous when he is about to get his report card. And last, he didn’t really find anything. Now on the our visualizer, the visualizer did a great job of his work. He used figures instead of a picture, this is the act of creativity. Anyways, the 3D model gave me a good summary of the main idea in these chapter that is when the Chief skipped Jonas. Our reflector gave us a prediction. She predicted that Jonas was unique so that’s why the chief skipped him. She also explained the mood which was anxiety of Jonas when the Chief skipped Jonas. Some of our vocabulary words are perspiring, reprieve, inadequate, plea and solemnly, etc. Now these are really hard ones, I can’t understand them just by looking at them, I can tell that our Word Wizard worked hard one this one. Anyways, that includes our group’s activities on these chapters.

Week 2 Discussion Director of Group 2

1. What do you think the Releasing room would be like? What would happen in there? If you were to stand in front of it, what would you see?

2. Do you think that Gabriel is like Jonas? Why? Also could Jonas almost got released when he was born because he’s like Gabriel?

3. Who do you think the Old is? Are they the same as the Elders? Why?

4. Do you think that the release of Roberto is a happy event? Why would you think that?

5. Do you think that the job Birthmother is a good job? Why do you think that Lily’s mother didn’t let her think about being a Birthmother?

Week 1 Reflector of Group 2

After reading the first chapter, I would predict that the story “The Giver” is all about a boy, Jonas, who is trying to escape the world that he is in right now. He must unravel the truth behind the city’s creation and why it was created.

The mood of the story is pretty slow-paced, it’s peaceful and there is no conflict. But I feel like the peace is going to be broken.

I was thinking about the main character in Maze Runner who is also trying to escape a world where there is no freedom when I was reading. This give me the knowledge to predict all of this.

I think the character Jonas is going to be a brave person. He would change because he had this feeling that he does not understand, a feeling of curiosity. He will discover things that he shouldn’t know due to his curiosity.

The big idea of the chapter is Jonas is scared of the Ceremony of Twelve. He would overcome it and another obstacle will hit him. I don’t know what it is but it is interesting.

The text is drawing me into Jonas world, explaining his fear of things and why he is. This gives me the feeling of curiosity, I would read the book more and dive deep into the meaning of the story.

Jonas is overcoming a big obstacle, he is doing what he should not, I think he will break the rules and will confront the antagonist in the future. That’s all I know from reading chapter 1.
